The New York Yankees reportedly left their meeting with free-agent superstar Juan Soto feeling optimistic.
New York Post’s Jon Heyman dropped new details after the Yankees met with the outfielder Monday.
Heyman reported the meeting was a way for Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner to get acquainted with Soto, despite Steinbrenner writing checks to Soto during the 2024 campaign. Soto reportedly did not receive any contract offers during any of these meetings.
However, New York is clearly gearing up to put something big before Soto.
“This clearly is their Plan A, as it it for many other teams,” Heyman said Tuesday. “I think they’re getting to know each other and it was generally a very good meeting from what I hear.”

Heyman said Steinbrenner was “gung-ho” and “very excited” to get the opportunity to meet with Soto because he met with him just once last season.
Soto reportedly sought confirmation from Steinbrenner that the Bronx Bombers would continue their commitment to excellence.
Soto has met with the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets, according to reports. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies reportedly also have meetings scheduled with Soto.
Heyman tabbed the Mets as the favorite to sign Soto with the Blue Jays (not the Yankees) as his second favorite. Other MLB insiders, however, believe the Yankees have the best chance.
