One Big Takeaway From Bruins’ Gut-Check Win Over Flyers

Boston was 1-4-1 in its last six

The Bruins weren’t exactly in a “must-win” scenario when they took the ice for a matinee matchup with the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday… but they reeeaaallly needed one.

Boston delivered, too, registering a 3-0 win at Wells Fargo Center — moving to 5-6-1 on the season.

The Black and Gold’s urgency was evident from the opening puck drop, as Cole Koepke, Mark Kastelic and John Beecher were put back together as the club looked to build early momentum. Philadelphia forward Travis Konecny allowed that to happen, committing a tripping penalty less than a minute into the game.

The Bruins didn’t score on that power-play opportunity, but registered the first six shots on goal and never quite looked back.

Matthew Poitras eventually cashed in later in the period, starting the scoring on a day when some struggling skaters were able to get on the board. Morgan Geekie, for one, was able to tally an assist after being a healthy scratch in Thursday’s disastrous loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Justin Brazeau was a healthy scratch last week, but he provided some breathing room with his third goal of the season.

Boston didn’t dominate, but it got the job done on an afternoon when the pressure was on.
