Patriots Announce Series Of Roster Moves After NFL Trade Deadline

Monty Rice was a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft

The New England Patriots on Tuesday announced a series of roster moves shortly after the NFL trade deadline expired.

New England released offensive tackle Zachary Thomas from the team’s 53-man roster and center Bryan Hudson from the practice squad.

The Patriots also signed linebacker Monty Rice to the practice squad.

Thomas was claimed from the Los Angeles Rams after the league’s 53-man roster cutdown in August. The 26-year-old was active the last eight games, but played sparingly on offense.

Thomas played 83% of snaps during a Week 6 loss against the Houston Texans and 44% of snaps in a Week 3 loss to the New York Jets. However, he played just two offensive snaps during the last three games.

Rice was released from the Atlanta Falcons practice squad two weeks ago. The 25-year-old entered the league as a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Rice spend his first three seasons with the Tennessee Titans and appeared in 35 games (10 starts). He was released by the Titans last December and claimed off waivers by New Orleans the following day.
