Patriots Fans Might Get Their Mac Jones Wish With Trevor Lawrence Injury

It would mark Jones' first start in nearly a year

Mac Jones wasn’t thrust into the starting lineup despite the well-documented struggles of the Jacksonville Jaguars, but an injury to Trevor Lawrence might do it.

Lawrence is dealing with “upper-body” soreness, according to Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson. The lingering ailment caused Lawrence to be limited in practice Wednesday and Pederson confirmed Jones remains the team’s backup quarterback.

It would mark Jones’ first start in nearly a year (Nov. 26) when the New England Patriots fell to the New York Giants. New England traded the 2021 first-round pick to Jacksonville during the offseason.

“I’m always ready to go in,” Jones told 1010XL, the flagship station of the Jaguars. “I’ve had a good experience with that, and that’s my job and I focus on that, and prepare my mindset for that moment.”

Jones played in two games this season for the Jaguars, both of which were blowout losses. Jones is 6-for-9 for 28 yards passing in those two combine games.

It would provide Patriots fans the chance to watch Jones start a game after he flamed out for Bill Belichick’s team. New England fans likely would salivate at the opportunity to watch Jones go up against Brian Flores and the havoc-causing Minnesota Vikings defense.
