O'Neill is set to hit the open market
Tyler O’Neill had himself a profitable campaign for the Red Sox, and in doing so attracted other teams as he heads to the open market.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Tuesday published an extensive MLB offseason preview and included a nugget about the 29-year-old slugger, who spent the 2024 season in Boston.
“The Red Sox would like to bring him back, and he would fit with the Giants and Tigers as well,” Passan wrote.
The plugged-in MLB insider noted how O’Neill was one of the league’s best hitters against left-handed pitching in 2024. O’Neill hit 16 home runs in 156 plate appearances against left-handers and tallied MLB’s highest slugging percentage against lefties.
O’Neill was one of Boston’s most consistent hitters with 31 home runs and 61 RBIs. O’Neill sounded open to a return after having preliminary talks with the club before free agency.
In other Red Sox news, Passan dropped a huge update on Boston’s pursuit of Juan Soto.
