This coach spent six years with the Orioles
The Red Sox reportedly filled one of two open vacancies in their coaching staff.
Boston will hire Chris Holt as its new bullpen coach, according to MASN’s Roch Kubatko and MassLive’s Chris Cotillo on Wednesday. Holt spent six years as the Baltimore Orioles pitching coach and director of pitching.
The Portland, Maine native will serve as the main man for pitching coach Andrew Bailey along with a group that includes director of pitching Justin Willard and game-planning coordinator Jason Varitek.
Holt was an amateur coach at the collegiate and high school levels before scouting for Baltimore in 2012 and 2013. He started coaching the Houston Astros affiliates in 2014 before becoming Houston’s assistant pitching coordinator in 2018. He joined Baltimore for the 2019 season with Mike Elias, who left the Astros to become Orioles general manager. Holt left the O’s after the 2024 season.
The Red Sox will need to replace departed first base coach Andy Fox to complete their coaching staff for the 2025 season.
