Red Sox Rumors: Huge Update On Boston’s Pursuit Of Juan Soto

Soto reportedly is high on Boston's 'want list'

The Red Sox’s interest in Juan Soto appears to be more serious than many thought.

Boston was a somewhat surprising addition in a recent report that outlined the field of suitors for Soto, the most coveted player in Major League Baseball free agency. Soto obviously will command a very expensive long-term contract, and the Red Sox were expected to use their resources to address a variety of needs, most notably starting pitching.

But according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Boston’s Soto pursuit goes beyond due diligence. The Red Sox reportedly will be the second team this week to meet with the four-time All-Star, who reportedly is “at the top” of the club’s “want list.”

Of course, Craig Breslow and company hardly will be the only folks meeting with the 26-year-old. The Toronto Blue Jays will have the first meeting with Soto, who also will talk shop with the Yankees and the Mets, a pair of New York clubs deemed “the favorites” by Passan to land the four-time All-Star.

So while we shouldn’t pencil Soto in as a Red Sox lineup fixture for years to come, Boston seems to be very much in the arm’s race. And members of Red Sox brass should be able to have their voices heard, as Soto entered the open market with a very open mind.
