Red Sox’s Jarren Duran Picks Up All-MLB Team Selection

Duran dazzled in 2024

Jarren Duran put together a full effort in 2024 that electrified Major League Baseball as the Boston Red Sox saw the growth of a star.

Duran led MLB in plate appearances, at-bats, doubles and triples while slugging 21 home runs and stealing 34 bases. He’s the sport’s most dynamic leadoff hitter (Shohei Ohtani would be the best leadoff hitter). The Red Sox benefited from his offensive skillset and improved defense to put together a sensational season.

That effort earned Duran accolades with a spot on the All-MLB Second Team, as announced Thursday. He may have an argument that he should have made the First Team, especially given that former Red Sox outfielder and current Dodgers star Mookie Betts played just 43 games in the outfield and lost out on numerous statistical advantages to Duran.

It’s not the first snub of awards season for the Red Sox outfielder after losing out on a Gold Glove nomination and a Silver Slugger win. Instead, the right moves this offseason in player acquisition could help Duran and the ballclub track down a larger prize.

Still entering just his age-28 season, Duran still has a higher level the Red Sox could see in 2025 from a cornerstone player of the new core.
