McVay last visited in 2015
Sean McVay will visit Gillette Stadium for the first time as a head coach Sunday when the Los Angeles Rams take on the New England Patriots.
He did make the trip in 2015 as the offensive coordinator with the then-Washington Redskins. Those games played out during New England’s dynasty under Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. The gravity of that atmosphere stood out to the Rams head coach before the upcoming trip.
“I remember going there when I was a coordinator in Washington,” McVay told reporters Wednesday, per team-provided video. “Brady walks out to the song and you think, ‘Oh, man.’ It was impressive. It’s a great venue. Historical franchise. Seems like it’s going to be a nice day from what I’ve heard. It’ll be cool.”
The Patriots defeated Washington 27-10 as New England moved to 8-0 on the season.
Los Angeles last visited New England in 2016, their first time since relocating from St. Louis, when Brady earned his NFL-record-breaking 201st career win as the Patriots inched closer to the No. 1 seed in the AFC and a victory in Super Bowl LI.
The Patriots and Rams meet in this Week 11 encounter Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
