Vederian Lowe Takes Responsibility For Costly Penalty, Celebrates ‘Dream’ Catch

Lowe had a 'lifelong dream come true' in the loss

Patriots offensive tackle Vederian Lowe had quite the game in New England’s 28-22 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

The third-year offensive lineman had a dream come true early in the fourth quarter with the Patriots trailing, 28-13, when Lowe caught a four-yard touchdown pass from Drake Maye.

“First of all, I’ve never caught a touchdown ever at any level of football that I’ve ever played, but it’s always been a dream of mine,” Lowe told reporters at Gillette Stadium, per team-provided video. “As a little kid, I always thought I could play tight end. Growing up, I always thought I had fairly great hands. … But I’ve been waiting for a moment like this. I’m just glad when the play got called, everybody executed and we scored a touchdown.”

Lowe added: “You never know if (the offensive coordinator) is going to call (the play). And when our big guys came in, I was like, ‘Oh (expletive), this is, I think this is the time.’ And I was ready for it. I’ve been waiting my whole life to catch a touchdown and let alone it being in the NFL.

“… About damn time. I’ve been waiting all my life to catch a pass, never mind a touchdown in the NFL. … I was really glad that in this moment, I was able to execute (the play) and make a lifelong dream of mine come true.”

Even with his dream catch, Lowe made a costly error in the second quarter that negated a Patriots first down.

With the Patriots lined up at the Rams’ 32-yard line on third-and-8, Maye hit tight end Hunter Henry for a 17-yard game and a first down. However, Lowe was called for illegal formation. New England lost five yards on the penalty, and Maye couldn’t complete his next pass to DeMario Douglas.

“I was warned previously, twice by the official,” Lowe said. “I thought I was lining up correctly, looking at the guard’s alignment and lining up on the guard’s alignment.

“What really sucks about that call is it came on a (third down) conversion. I feel like that really killed the drive after that. I feel like it really hits as hard as it does for me because that’s such a simple fix. Such an easy thing to fix.”
