What Juan Soto Reportedly Requested From Yankees In Meeting

Juan Soto seems to be looking for more than money in his next Major League Baseball pact.

Dollar signs surely will be the driving force that leads to Soto’s new contract, which could reach rarefied air in terms of total value. But the superstar outfielder apparently will consider other factors as he evaluates his free agency.

The Red Sox, for example, reportedly received inquiries from Soto and his team about their ballpark and facilities, player evaluation process and commitment to winning. The latter reportedly also was a point of emphasis Monday when the 26-year-old met with the New York Yankees.

“With agent Scott Boras sitting next to him, Soto expressed his feelings about the Yankees’ future. He wanted confirmation from (Hal) Steinbrenner about a continuing commitment to excellence,” NJ.com’s Bob Klapisch wrote in a column published Tuesday.

“Soto also pointed out where the Bombers need to improve. He heard Steinbrenner say there will be upgrades in next year’s roster, although it’s unknown who the Yankees are specifically targeting.”

The Yankees reportedly left Monday’s meeting feeling “positive” about their chances of keeping Soto, who was an All-Star in his first season in New York and helped the club reach the World Series. While Steinbrenner and company reportedly didn’t make Soto an offer Monday, they believe the “door is open” to have a “dollars-driven” meeting in the coming weeks, per Klapisch.

All told, the Bronx Bombers appear to have as good of a shot as any club to win the Soto sweepstakes.
