Up to $600 million and counting
Juan Soto is going to get a massive payday that will drop jaws around Major League Baseball. Teams such as the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees and the New York Mets remain waiting for the most anticipated free agent decision of the winter.
While rumors swirl as to when Soto will make his decision, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal updated the current magic number that teams have offered the slugger to stay in negotiations.
“The clubs publicly known to be most serious about Soto are the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers,” Rosenthal wrote Tuesday. “The two people briefed on the negotiations said that all remaining contenders have made offers above $600 million.”
With the Red Sox still hanging around, that’s a significant move from Boston that changes course from contract spending in recent seasons. That’s changed with the caliber of player Soto is and a rejuvenated approach from the franchise.
The MLB Winter Meetings run in Dallas from Dec. 9-12.
