MLB Insider Projects Juan Soto’s Contract Amid Red Sox’s Pursuit

Where will Juan Soto land?

The Red Sox are right in the thick of the Juan Soto sweepstakes as the final week commences before MLB Winter Meetings.

With the spectrum of the opening of free agency in style, MLB insider and New York Post reporter Jon Heyman took a swing at predicting just how much money that generational slugger could bring in on a projected deal this winter.

“With almost all big-market teams involved, including the Mets and incumbent Yankees, he will score the most valuable contract ever when considering Shohei Ohtani’s $700M deal is valued at $437.4M (union valuation) due to the $680M in deferrals,” Heyman wrote. “At least the Dodgers, Giants, Blue Jays, Red Sox and surprising Rays are also in the biggest derby. $630M. 14 years.”

That would be just the second contract to bring in that total money in MLB history as Heyman alluded to behind Ohtani. The Red Sox potentially meeting that mark would revolutionize the offense and make a blaring statement that Boston is serious about doing everything to win once again.

Soto’s decision should come in the first half of December with the chance to give a team a holiday season to remember with the field narrowing for the star.
