New York is shifting gears to its pitching staff
The Mets secured a historic agreement with Juan Soto and reportedly are turning their sights on a former Boston Red Sox pitcher.
New York reportedly agreed to a deal with Clay Holmes and hopes to convert him into a starter. The Mets also could be looking to add Nick Pivetta after scheduling a meeting with him, according to the New York Post’s Matt Ehalt.
Pivetta went 6-12 with a 4.14 ERA last season. The Red Sox extended a qualifying offer to the 31-year-old, but the right-hander declined.
The Mets need pitching depth after losing Luis Severino to the Athletics and free agent Sean Manaea isn’t expected to return to The Big Apple.
Boston reportedly “could pursue” a reunion with Pivetta depending on how its chase for Corbin Burnes plays out. So there will be multiple teams vying for the veteran’s services in the final days of the MLB winter meetings.
