MLB Rumors: Two Teams Being ‘Most Aggressive’ For Red Sox Trade Target

You'll never believe who is believed to have the 'edge' in the Garrett Crochet sweepstakes

The Mets already have landed the top prize in free agency, and there’s a chance they acquire the biggest fish on the trade market as well.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon on Monday offered insight into the trade market involving Chicago White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet.

The Athletic reported the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox are all engaging in talks for Crochet. However, the Mets and Yankees reportedly were the “most aggressive” suitors as of Monday.

Steven Cohen’s Mets have the “edge” in Rosenthal’s mind.

“The Mets, after beating out the Yankees for Soto, also would appear to have the edge for Crochet, based on the young talent they could offer,” The Athletic wrote.

The Athletic shared Chicago is looking for major-league-ready hitters who profile as up-the-middle players. Some of the Mets’ top prospects fit that profile.

Rosenthal acknowledged the Red Sox might be an “ideal fit” for Crochet given Boston’s farm system is bursting with young talent. But the Red Sox are “focused on other pursuits,” according to The Athletic.

Red Sox fans hoping Boston will trade for the 25-year-old shouldn’t give up just yet, though. After all, The Athletic reported no deal with any club was considered close, and MLB Network’s Jon Morosi pegged Boston as the likeliest landing spot for the southpaw.
