NFL Rumors: This GM Thought To Be Atop Mike Vrabel’s Wishlist
Perhaps New England could become a landing spot for this combination?
Mike Vrabel apparently doesn’t plan to come alone.
Vrabel, a senior analyst for the Cleveland Browns, is expected to be one of the most desired head coaching candidates this offseason. And the former Tennessee Titans head coach apparently has “a real idea” of who he wants on his staff.
“I think he’d bring a general manager with him,” Sport Illustrated’s Albert Breer said on NBC Sports Boston on Tuesday. “It’d probably be Ryan Cowden.”

Cowden currently is in his second season as the New York Giants executive advisor to general manager Joe Schoen, whom he previously worked with in Carolina. Cowden also worked with Vrabel in Tennessee when he served as the director of player personnel and vice president of player personnel.
Cowden could become relevant for any team in the market for a new general manager/head coach pairing, perhaps even the New England Patriots. The future of Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf and head coach Jerod Mayo are uncertain, despite the fact both are in their first year.
It’s been that bad at One Patriot Place.
Should Patriots owner Robert Kraft opt to move on from Wolf and Mayo, the combination of Cowden and Vrabel could make some sense. Especially after NBC Sports Boston’s Tom E. Curran reported Vrabel “would be interested” in coaching the Patriots.
