Patriots Draft Preview: Backfield Depth Becoming Necessity

New England could benefit from a deep class

The Patriots have extremely clear needs entering the 2025 NFL Draft.

NESN.com’s Keagan Stiefel (that’s me) has joined George Balekji and Travis Thomas on NESN’s “Foxboro Rush” podcast throughout the season to discuss them — because there’s no sense in waiting with this club.

New England has to address the offensive line, and we’ve discussed what that could mean by highlighting the top players available during the draft cycle. It’s also extremely likely the club will take a couple more cracks at upgrading its weapons, as well, whether that means wide receiver, tight end or even running back.

Yes, running back.

Stiefel and Balekji discussed some possible backfield options on Wednesday, making cases for the likes of South Carolina’s Raheim “Rocket” Sanders, Michigan’s Donovan Edwards, Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo and Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon II to potentially be selected by New England.

The Patriots have bigger needs, but given the lack of depth they’ve had at the position for the last couple of years, it’s worth addressing the position with this extremely deep class.
