Red Sox Reportedly Have This ‘Belief’ Amid Juan Soto Pursuit

Boston has belief it can get back to the postseason

The Red Sox very well could miss the boat on Juan Soto, but there’s still confidence coming from their camp amid the high-profile pursuit.

Boston believes there are multiple paths back toward contention.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan and Buster Olney discussed all things free agency on Thursday, with the latter revealing just how confident the local ballclub is as they look for ways to re-enter the postseason conversation.

“In the Red Sox’s internal talks, there has been a belief expressed that with the right move, Boston will be positioned to make the playoffs next year and contend for a division title,” Olney said.

Soto, of course, is the big fish, having reportedly received offers of $600 million or more from the Red Sox, New York Mets and New York Yankees, among others. Boston isn’t believed to be among the teams already eliminated from contention, but a couple of factors seem to be working against it, thus talk of other additions.

Max Fried has been the other big name tied to them, though he is hardly the only high-profile pitcher to find himself in rumors related to Boston. The Red Sox ultimately will need to spend, and according to what we’ve heard, they’re willing to do so.
