Red Sox Rumors: Boston ‘Still Exploring’ Blockbuster Moves

Boston is hunting for another big name

The Red Sox might have quieted some noise with their acquisition of Garrett Crochet on Wednesday, but they aren’t done yet.

*insert that one Samuel L. Jackson gif here*

Boston is “still exploring” possible top-of-the-rotation and mid-tier options on the pitching market, according to Alex Speier of The Boston Globe — which includes pitcher Corbin Burnes.

Adam Jude and Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times also reported that the Red Sox and Mariners have engaged in trade talks involving one of the latter’s pitchers — with Luis Castillo being floated as the possible target,

Burnes, 30, is expected to make some major scratch when he eventually signs, as the Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants have each ramped up efforts to land him. The Red Sox, however, reportedly spent time Tuesday preparing an offer for Burnes with pitchers coming off the board by the minute at the Winter Meetings.

Castillo, 31, is a much more interesting case, as he’s currently locked into a contract with $72 million on the books over the next three seasons. Boston surely can afford to take that on, but it likely wouldn’t want to give up the package that Seattle would be looking for.

It’s safe to say there are plenty of questions regarding the Red Sox’s next move, but reports certainly seem to believe it’ll be a big one.
