Breslow appears to be hard at work to improve Boston's roster
Craig Breslow hasn’t been shy about what the Red Sox need this offseason and appears to be hard at work ensuring the front office achieves its goals.
The Boston chief baseball officer identified the team’s need for a right-handed bat and more depth in the starting rotation and bullpen. The Red Sox have been linked to multiple quality free agents and trade targets and don’t plan on heading into spring training without one of them.
Legendary baseball writer Peter Gammons on Thursday offered intel from three officials from other teams this week. They described Breslow as “the most active GM in trade discussions” and described his approach as “persistence.” Gammons also noted the word “resilient,” which implied a clear focus.
While abstract on the surface, it falls in line with Gammons’ previous reporting and other rumors regarding the “tireless” effort from the Red Sox front office.
The market did seem to cool down a week after the MLB winter meetings. However, the acquisition of Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox did show Boston was a real player in the market. That should be kept in mind as the holidays and the new year roll around and as the market continues to play out.
