Red Sox Rumors: Details On Boston’s ‘Internal Talks’ Amid Free Agency

Boston knows the 'right move' will go a long way this offseason

The Red Sox know the impact this offseason could have on the organization.

There are a number of free agents and trade targets who could make a big difference in Boston, and those inside the Red Sox organization reportedly believe the “right move” will get them back to where they want to be.

In the Red Sox’s internal talks, there has been a belief expressed that with the right move, Boston will be positioned to make the playoffs next year and contend for a division title,” ESPN’s Buster Olney wrote Wednesday.

Red Sox president and CEO Sam Kennedy recently said competing for the division is a priority for the ballclub.

“Our priority is 90 to 95 wins, and winning the American League East, and winning the division for multiple years,” Kennedy told reporters at MLB owners meetings.

The easiest way to accomplish that, of course, is to spend to acquire players this offseason. Kennedy confirmed the Red Sox will invest more than in years past, and invest going forward.

It certainly seems as if Boston is trying to live up to Kennedy’s sentiments. The Red Sox reportedly remain in the Juan Soto sweepstakes, which likely means Boston offered Soto more than $600 million as that’s the offer all remaining contenders have at this point.

Soto is not the only big fish Boston is trying to catch either. According to multiple reports, the Red Sox also are in talks with top-of-market pitchers including Corbin Burnes and Max Fried. Boston also has surfaced as a potential suitor for Chicago White Sox trade target Garrett Crochet.

Any one (or two?) of those additions would improve the ballclub entering 2025, and qualify as the “right move.”
