Boston reportedly is using its biggest resources in this pursuit
The Red Sox reportedly are pulling out the big guns as they try to bring Juan Soto to Boston.
Red Sox brass, according to multiple reports, has been in contact with Soto, who’s been “impressed” by what the club has brought to the table. The folks highest on Boston’s totem pole reportedly aren’t the only people speaking to the star outfielder on the storied franchise’s behalf, though.
“From what I’m hearing, Big Papi is playing a role in this and recruiting Soto hard,” NJ.com’s Randy Miller said Saturday on WFAN, as transcribed by MLB.com.
David Ortiz hasn’t tried to be stealthy about helping the Red Sox in their pursuit of Soto. The Hall of Fame slugger recently admitted that he’d been in contact with the four-time All-Star, who Ortiz views as a legitimate candidate to land in Boston. The three-time World Series champion also vowed to be a trusted ally for Soto if he takes his talents to Fenway Park.
Of course, Soto’s free agency decision will boil down to a few key factors, most notably money. But having a baseball icon like Ortiz in their corner certainly does not hurt the Red Sox’s chances of trying to land one of the most talented players of this generation.
