Max Fried is expected to sign by Thursday
The Red Sox won’t have to wait on a decision too much longer.
Max Fried is expected to choose his next team by Thursday, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Fried, the top remaining left-handed starter on the market, is expected to choose between the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays. The Texas Rangers were also said to be in the mix, though it is unlikely they can afford to be involved in an arms race.
Boston reportedly has been in touch with the 30-year-old this offseason, though he “really liked” his recent meeting with New York.
Fried likely will pick between those two teams, according to a previous report, and is expected to command a deal of five to six years. The Red Sox would immediately stabilize their rotation by adding the left-hander, so they just might be inclined to outbid their arch-rivals to do so.
