Red Sox Rumors: Yankees Had ‘Productive Meetings’ With Top Pitching Targets

Corbin Burnes and Max Fried should have multiple suitors

The Boston Red Sox, for as invested as they are in the Juan Soto sweepstakes, need premium additions to the starting rotation this offseason.

Corbin Burnes and Max Fried are the best starting pitchers on the free agent market. Blake Snell signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers as the first notable name off the board in a top tier of starters. Now, teams such as the Red Sox and others could speed up the process to not lose out on another arm.

The New York Post’s Mike Puma reported Wednesday night that the New York Yankees have spoken virtually met with the top two remaining starting pitchers on the market.

“According to industry sources, Yankees officials spoke this week on a Zoom call with Max Fried, one of several such interactions they have had recently with free agents,” Puma wrote. “Last month, team officials spoke on Zoom with Corbin Burnes, according to sources.”

Puma’s colleague Jon Heyman reposted that report to X and added that the Yankees had “productive meetings” with Fried and Burnes.

Both starters are proven aces that have taken the workload in stride and made impacts for their respective teams in the past. Fried won the World Series with the Atlanta Braves in 2021 while Burnes earned a National League Cy Young award win with the Milwaukee Brewers. Both pitchers could be in heavy pursuit as the Winter Meetings commence with big suitors ready to spend.

The MLB Winter Meetings run from Dec. 9-12 in Dallas.
