Boston will be a club to watch in Dallas
The Red Sox and their MLB counterparts have reached a critical juncture of the offseason.
Monday marked the start of the winter meetings, which will run through Thursday in Dallas. There were plenty of fireworks before the festivities commenced, as Juan Soto reportedly made his highly anticipated free agency decision Sunday evening.
But with Soto now off the board, the rest of the offseason dominoes are expected to fall. And you can find all of the updates here.
Wednesday
3:45 p.m.: The Red Sox officially announced the trade for Garrett Crochet in a team release. Boston sends four prospects to Chicago in Braden Montgomery, Kyle Teel, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez.
1:51 p.m.: The Red Sox are on the verge of trading for Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox, as first reported by the Boston Globe’s Julian McWilliams. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported the deal is in the medical phase, and trending toward becoming official.
12:55 p.m.: The Red Sox are rumored to be interested in trading for Dylan Cease, but they reportedly could face competition via the Baltimore Orioles.
10 a.m.: Although Nick Pivetta rejected the Red Sox’s qualifying offer, the sides very well could reunite this offseason, per MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.
7:50 a.m.: According to Audacy’s Rob Bradford, Teoscar Hernández’s price was influenced by Juan Soto’s reported deal and has forced the Red Sox and other suitors to start looking at other options.
Tuesday
10 p.m.: Chris Martin is at the Winter Meetings and told MassLive’s Sean McAdam that the Red Sox are “right up there” with the other teams in pursuit of the veteran reliever. ESPN’s Jorge Castillo reported Martin met with the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers.
7:54 p.m.: Nathan Eovaldi isn’t going anywhere. Fansided’s Robert Murray reported the veteran right-hander agreed to a contract agreement with the Texas Rangers. WEEI’s Rob Bradford added Eovaldi received a three-year, $75 million deal.
5:47 p.m.: The Yankees beat out the Red Sox for starting pitcher Max Fried. New York handed the 30-year-old lefty a massive eight-year, $218 million contract, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
5:01 p.m.: The Red Sox might have a backup option if they fail to sign Max Fried or Corbin Burnes. According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Red Sox have shown interest in trading for San Diego Padres ace Dylan Cease.
4:10 p.m.: The Red Sox have a hole at backup catcher after Danny Jansen signed with the Tampa Bay Rays last week. MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported the Red Sox are taking a look at James McCann.
2:15 p.m.: FanSided’s Robert Murray reported Max Fried is expected to sign with either the Red Sox or the Yankees.
12:40 p.m.: According to Audacy’s Rob Bradford, Los Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward is being viewed as a backup option for Teoscar Hernández suitors, which include the Red Sox.
10:25 a.m.: Jesús Luzardo reportedly is “drawing trade interest” at the winter meetings and could be a backup plan for the pitching-needy Red Sox.
8:30 a.m.: MLB Network’s Jon Morosi believes the Red Sox are the “strongest option” to trade for Garret Crochet.
Monday
10:30 pm: The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported the Red Sox are more focused on “other pursuits” than a crowded trade field for Garrett Crochet.
5:30 pm: USA Today’s Bob Nightengale once again connected the Red Sox to Nolan Arenado in a potential pivot move after Juan Soto signed with the Mets.
4:30 pm: Alex Cora told reporters that the Red Sox would not move Rafael Devers off third base despite other Boston rumors on player acquisition.
3:15 pm: ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez reported that the Los Angeles Dodgers and outfielder Teoscar Hernández have a gap in negotiations. That very well could open the door for the Red Sox to add the right-handed bat they need.
Noon: The Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers are both in “good position” to sign Teoscar Hernández, per MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.
11:05 am: The Red Sox, along with the Yankees and the Blue Jays, reportedly are showing “strong interest” in Anthony Santander after losing out on Soto.
8:40 am: With Soto in Queens, the Red Sox reportedly could make star third baseman Alex Bregman a “priority.”
7:45 am: The Red Sox are expected to go after Teoscar Hernandez, but Boston reportedly is not leading the race to sign the veteran slugger.
