Why Ex-Patriot Believes Bill Belichick Will Be Successful At North Carolina

Jason McCourty has faith in Belichick's system

What works in the NFL doesn’t necessarily translate at the collegiate level.

However, New England Patriots Super Bowl champion Jason McCourty doesn’t believe that will impact Bill Belichick’s ability to coach at North Carolina.

“Bill has given this a ton of thought, and I think he has built a system that’s going to work for him,” McCourty said on “SportsCenter” Wednesday night. “When it comes to recruiting … and all of those things that have absolutely nothing to do with the X’s and O’s of football, he’s going to have people in place to deal with that.”

McCourty continued: “I look at his coaching style, and what he does, he knows how to put players in position to succeed. ‘Come to this school if you want to learn how to be an outside linebacker that can translate well to getting drafted and playing in the NFL.’ That is going to be his expertise.”

The retired cornerback added Belichick surrounding himself with the right staff around him would only benefit the legendary coach. Having former NFL personnel executive Michael Lombardi join the Tar Heels as North Carolina’s general manager is the first step in ensuring Belichick’s success.

Lombardi is expected to oversee the transfer portal and NIL deals, according to VSiN’s Bill Adee.
