Yankees Rumors: Spending Spree Continues With All-Star

Paul Goldschmidt is a Bronx Bomber

The Yankees just keep on spending.

New York agreed on a one-year, $12.5 million contract with first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. Jack Curry of YES Network was the first to report the news.

Goldschmidt, 37, joins a hefty list of offseason additions in The Bronx, with first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger and pitchers Max Fried and Devin Williams previously being acquired — adding roughly $266 million in total money to the books.

New York, of course, had to make a few additions after outfielder Juan Soto and closer Clay Holmes each traveled across town to join the New York Mets.

Goldschmidt was once among the best players at his position, winning National League MVP in 2022, hitting 35 home runs and slashing .317/.404/.578. It’s been downhill ever since, though, as he finished with a .268/.363/.447 batting line 2023 and a .245/.302/.414 line in 2024. The Yankees needed to make a move at the position, however, as previous target Christian Walker joined the Houston Astros earlier in the week.

What do you think, Red Sox fans? Is Paul Goldschmidt enough to make you nervous?
