'There are no indications from my perspective'
Last week, Bruins stars Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak responded to a report from WEEI’s Rich Keefe claiming the latter had become an issue in the room.
Former Bruins player and current NESN analyst Andy Brickley offered his take on the situation when he joined Adam Pellerin in the latest episode of “The Hockey Hub” podcast.
“When you lose six in a row, there are issues,” Bricklet said. “… It gets emotional, it gets hard, and it’s hard to keep it together as a group, and feelings are hurt. Things are said. You’re trying to get each other going.”
Brickley explained that he has first-hand experience with losing streaks during his 11-season NHL career, including four with the Black and Gold, and how tensions can flare during that time.
“… I’m not saying this is what happened. I’m not in the room. That’s the domain of the players, and it’s always been my mindset, and the way I approach my job is I can be as close to the players as I need to be, but I try to give them that room, that’s their sanctuary that’s where they come together as a group.”
Despite the Bruins’ struggles this season, Brickley doesn’t believe there is an issue in the locker room.
“There are no indications from my perspective,” he said. “I don’t see anything that would lend itself to being such a strong issue that it’s hurting the locker room, hurting the team, hurting their performance. I don’t see that.”
