Deion Sanders To Cowboys? ‘Prime’ Details Talk With Jerry Jones

Sanders is 'intrigued' by the possibility of returning to Dallas

The Cowboys cut ties with Mike McCarthy on Monday, and Dallas might replace him with one of the biggest names in football.

Longtime Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spoke with Deion Sanders mere hours after America’s Team didn’t find common ground with McCarthy in contract negotiations. Sanders expressed a commitment to Colorado in the past, but it doesn’t sound like he’s ruling out the possibility of coaching in Big D.

“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing,” Sanders told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.”

Sanders, who was a Pro Bowler in four of his five seasons with the Cowboys, does not have any NFL coaching experience. The Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback coached three seasons at Jackson State before taking the job with the Buffaloes, who he guided to a 9-4 record this season.

There are other potential causes for concern with Sanders, too, such as his involvement in his son’s highly anticipated draft process. But Jones never has been afraid to make a big splash, so we probably can’t rule “Primetime” out as the Cowboys’ potential new head coach.
