A new report contradicted what happened in London
Jerod Mayo made many mistakes through his lone season as Patriots head coach. Many of his snafus simply included providing misleading information to the media.
Patriots rookie wide receiver Javon Baker was inactive when New England faced the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium last Sunday. Baker was questionable entering the contest in London due to an illness.
The Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed and Andrew Callahan released a detailed report on Thursday, with one anonymous staffer confirming Baker missed bedcheck the night before the Patriots’ mid-October game in London, which Mayo denied.
“The issue was (Baker) didn’t understand why,” a team source said. “He was intending to be back on time, but he wasn’t. For him, he wasn’t in the wrong, because he was trying to be back on time.”
The fourth-round rookie played 39 offensive snaps across 11games with the Patriots last season. He had one catch on four targets for 12 yards and returned three kicks for 79 yards.
Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf said last week that he was expecting “a little bit more internal development,” which the anonymous source didn’t necessarily agree with.
“Sometimes like when people say, ‘Well, how come those two didn’t develop?’ It wasn’t like they weren’t developing,” a team source said. “They just weren’t where they needed to be … Some guys were just (better).”
