Aaron Glenn denied New England in a telling move
One of the most sought-after coaching candidates this offseason reportedly won’t be interviewing with the Patriots.
Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn had declined an interview request from the Patriots, according to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the five interviews Glenn had lined up, and they did not include New England.
The Patriots requested to interview Glenn after they were criticized for their initial two interviews. New England fulfilled the Rooney Rule on Tuesday by interviewing Byron Leftwich and Pep Hamilton, neither of whom were serious contenders for the top job.
It caused the Patriots to come under fire by media members, fans and those around the league. Even those inside the Patriots organization reportedly weren’t thrilled with the picture it painted.
The Patriots interviewed Mike Vrabel on Thursday and reportedly have an interview scheduled with Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson on Friday.
Glenn, however, will interview for five of the six openings.
