Maye missed Mike Vrabel's intro presser for a great reason
Mike Vrabel’s introductory Patriots press conference brought out a number of notable names, but a central figure of New England’s franchise wasn’t in attendance.
Drake Maye was noticeably absent from the festivities at Gillette Stadium on Monday. It was a contrast from the Patriots’ last head-coaching change, which saw Mac Jones on hand when Jerod Mayo took the baton from Bill Belichick.
Most weren’t overly concerned about Maye not being present to watch Robert Kraft introduce Vrabel. But it didn’t sit well with 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Mike Felger, who ripped the young quarterback on Tuesday’s episode of “Felger and Mazz.”
Well, it turns out Maye had a pretty good reason for not being in Foxboro, Mass., this week. The 2024 first-round pick was on a vacation that included a proposal to his longtime girlfriend, and the couple announced their engagement via Instagram on Wednesday.
As you can imagine, New England fans tore into Felger once it became clear that Maye’s absence from Vrabel’s presser was warranted. You can read a slew of social media chirps from the Foxboro Faithful by clicking the link here.
As for the football of it all, Vrabel appears to have a clear game plan for Maye’s development as an NFL sophomore. And it starts with putting “great people around” the talented signal-caller.
