Patriots Leader Reveals Motivating Factor For New England Return

David Andrews suffered a season-ending shoulder injury this season

David Andrews is one of the last few players from the Patriots dynasty era, and he hopes to leave the next generation in a good spot.

Andrews suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in Week 4. It was a major blow for New England and created a rotating offensive line. The 32-year-old underwent surgery but expressed hope to play again next season. One reason why he wants to return is because of a potential franchise star.

“On Drake (Maye) — a big part of the reason why I wanna come back and why I wanna play is him. I wanna get the chance to play with him,” Andrews said on “The Quick Snap” podcast, per CLNS Media’s Mike Kadlick. “I think he gives you a chance for success.”

Andrews’ sentiment aligns with other Patriots players. They all believe in Maye’s talent and think he has superstar potential.

Maye briefly took snaps with Andrews under center when he made his debut in Week 3. However, a full season together could help further the 22-year-old’s development in his sophomore season.

Andrews added that he is still a football player at heart and that was another reason why he wanted to return next season. He’ll spend this upcoming offseason rehabbing and trying to get back to full strength.
