Kraft said Wolf will be 'staying on'
Might there be more to Robert Kraft’s sentiments regarding the role of Eliot Wolf?
Many have questioned whether it could be the case after the Patriots owner said Wolf will be “staying on,” despite the fact the organization fired head coach Jerod Mayo. Wolf, the team’s executive vice president of player personnel, didn’t have a banner first season as it related to the NFL draft and free agency.
It’s prompted many to question whether Wolf will still lead the personnel department in 2025, especially since there will be a new head coach coming in.
Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard on Tuesday offered some insight into the popular talking point.
“… However, according to league sources, I do think the Krafts are going forward with the hope the front office stays in place with a new coach for at least one more season,” Bedard wrote.
Bedard’s reporting aligns with Kraft’s public comments. Whether Kraft’s “hope” will come to fruition, however, is yet to be seen.
NBC Sports Boston’s Phil Perry believes there is “no guarantee” Wolf will lead the department moving forward. If the incoming head coach wanted to bring in their own executive to lead the front office, Perry believes the Krafts would approve of such a move.
It would be a way for Kraft’s comments to still ring true — Wolf would still “stay on” — but it would be in a different capacity than the 2024 campaign.
