Mayo didn't have the respect of one staffer
The New England Patriots were smart to move on from Jerod Mayo, it would appear.
The Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed and Andrew Callahan released a report that detailed many aspects of a lost season on Thursday. It’s just another set of examples that further give credence to firing Mayo, but one of the more surprising statements to come of it painted the 38-year-old in a poor light.
“To all of the people saying he needed an experienced staff around him to help him find the right answers and find solutions, I don’t know if that would have helped,” one staffer said. “I don’t know if he actually would have listened to what they were gonna say.
“… He would ask anyone, ‘What do you think is the answer here? What do you think of this problem, what can we do to solve this?’ And he would listen to the person give their answer and then say something to the effect of, ‘Well, let me tell you why you’re wrong.'”
Kyed and Callahan made sure to point out that multiple other staffers disagreed with the sentiment, saying Mayo listened as both an assistant and head coach. It’s still not a great look, however.
The Patriots are now in the process of looking for a replacement, with Mike Vrabel currently looking like the leading candidate to land the job.
