Davon Godchaux had a busy Monday
FOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots held a noteworthy team meeting on Monday, informing players of the decision to part ways with Jerod Mayo.
Davon Godchaux was not in attendance.
Godchaux answered questions at his locker shortly after the meeting concluded, but was unable to answer when asked about the assembly’s overall message. Patriots captain Deatrich Wise Jr. was just a few feet away and chipped in to aid the 30-year-old, who then shared that he didn’t show up.
“I was handling some stuff with my family,” Godchaux said. “I didn’t get a chance to make that meeting.”
It’s fairly uncommon for players to miss meetings, especially at the conclusion of a season. Godchaux obviously had bigger things to attend to, ultimately spending a short time in the locker room during media availability. New England’s decision to make a coaching change was brought up during his scrum, and his answer was straight to the point.
“I ain’t really got no thoughts,” Godchaux said. “I don’t control none of those decisions, and the people who make the decisions made them.”
New England issued a two-year contract extension to the veteran prior to the start of the season, so the expectation is that he’ll be back in 2025.
