Cardinals Add Ex-Red Sox Reliever In Offseason Transaction

Bailey Horn is off to the midwest

The Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals have been connected all offseason long.

The two sides had a connected transaction Thursday, though this one did not involve Nolan Arenado.

The Cardinals claimed left-handed reliever Bailey Horn off waivers after a brief stint on the Detroit Tigers roster, per a team release. Horn makes the 40-man roster as St. Louis adds bullpen depth for the 2025 season. He came to the Red Sox organization under chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and now joins former Boston executive Chaim Bloom with the Cardinals.

Horn appeared in 18 games for Boston during the 2024 season for a 1-1 record and 6.50 ERA. The Red Sox added a pair of left-handed relievers to begin the offseason with the signings of Aroldis Chapman and Justin Wilson.

The Red Sox and Cardinals, as alluded to, could still have plenty of work to do with each other as the offseason rolls on.
