Women’s Beanpot Wrap: BU Prevails Over Harvard In Dramatic OT Win

This was quite the way for BU to start its tournament

BOSTON — Boston University punched its ticket to the Dunkin’ Women’s Beanpot final by pulling out a dramatic 2-1 overtime win over Harvard on Tuesday night from historic Matthews Arena.

The 14th-ranked Terriers improved to 14-6-1 in the semifinal win while the Crimson dropped to 2-13-2.

ONE BIG TAKEAWAY
The Terriers kept at it even though they weren’t getting the result they wanted. They bombarded Harvard goalie Ainsley Tuffy (39 saves) with shots throughout three periods but couldn’t find the back of the net.

That was until the final minute when BU finally broke free.

The Terriers one a faceoff in the offensive zone and a moment later Sydney Healey provided the game-tying goal with 55.5 seconds left in regulation to send the BU bench into a frenzy. The Terriers then kept the pressure on in overtime and Lindsay Bochna potted the game-winning goal with 1:17 remaining.

It was a story of persistence from BU. They outshot Harvard, 13-1, in the second period and held a 21-5 shot advantage after 40 minutes. But after allowing a goal to Angelica Megdanis just 1:42 into the third period, the Terriers were staring down the barrel of a shocking upset.

Instead, they kept throwing shots at Tuffy until they were finally able to get a couple past her to kept their dreams of lifting the Beanpot trophy alive.

PLAY OF THE GAME
Bochna ended up being the hero for the Terriers. She picked up speed along the left wing before putting her shot top shelf to lift BU to the win. It was her fifth goal of the season, but without a doubt none were bigger than that.

UP NEXT
BU will get set to face the winner of Northeastern-BC for the Beanpot title next Tuesday at TD Garden. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and you can watch the game on NESN. Before the Terriers can get to the championship bout, they have a Hockey East matchup on the road with New Hampshire on Saturday.

Harvard will play against the loser of the other semifinal matchup in next week’s third-place game, which also will be held at TD Garden. The Crimson have two games before that, though, taking on RPI and Union on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
