How Alex Bregman Made Great First Impression With Red Sox

Bregman struck the right tone at his introductory press conference

After spending all nine seasons of his MLB career with the Houston Astros, Alex Bregman is getting accustomed to life now with the Boston Red Sox.

And part of switching teams is making a good first impression with your new one. Bregman can check that off his list, according to NESN’s George Balekji.

Bregman struck the right tone throughout his 26-minute introductory press conference Sunday morning and showed a little bit of the bravado that comes from having made the postseason each year of his career, including seven straight trips to the American League Championship Series.

“But right away, off the bat, he goes, alright, this is my first time as a Red Sox. Boom, that’s all of it on the table. Someone come over and take it from me. You’re not going, too,” Balekji said on NESN’s “Boston Has Entered The Chat” podcast on Monday. “He’s going to infuse that arrogance into this Red Sox team. They have the confidence, now they need the arrogance of, ‘We are winners. We can do something special.'”

Balekji also noted how Bregman “bet on himself” by taking a short-term deal with player opt-outs with the Red Sox rather than going after the largest amount of money thrown at him. The Detroit Tigers reportedly offered him a six-year, $171.5 million contract.

While the Red Sox needed Bregman for his right-handed bat, his leadership as a two-time World Series champion should be just as valuable. And he now just has to get that to rub off on his new teammates.
