Alex Bregman Pulls Back Curtain On Market Before Red Sox Deal

Alex Bregman admitted he thought he was going to sign with the Tigers this offseason before the Red Sox ultimately convinced him to put pen to paper.

However, Boston and Detroit hardly were the only teams coveting the two-time World Series champion’s services.

Appearing on the latest episode of “Foul Territory,” Bregman detailed his final group of suitors before choosing to take his talents to Fenway Park.

“I wanted to be in a position, in a place where I felt like we could win. It kind of was between Houston, Boston, Detroit and Chicago,” Bregman said. “I felt like all four of those organizations were winning organizations. I had great conversations with all of them. Ultimately, super excited to be here and to be playing in Boston. I can already feel the energy from the city, from the fans.”

It doesn’t take a baseball expert to understand why Bregman picked the Red Sox out of those four teams. Yes, $40 million per year is a pretty convincing factor, but Boston was able to offer the two-time All-Star much more than cash. Included was a very robust farm system, a solid current core, an elite manager and a home ballpark where Bregman historically has thrived.

The 30-year-old sure seems thrilled with his decision, and that feeling only should intensify if the Red Sox live up to expectations this season.
