Key Theme Emerges With Players Bruins Acquired At Trade Deadline

The Bruins are hoping to get the most out of this group

The Boston Bruins completely reshaped their roster last week at the NHL trade deadline.

The Bruins shipped out several veteran mainstays, most notably former captain Brad Marchand, for draft pick compensation and a handful of players.

Bruins play-by-play announcer Judd Sirott examined on NESN’s “The Hockey Hub” podcast some of the players the Bruins got back in their slew of trades. And from Sirott’s perspective, Marat Khusnutdinov, Henri Jokiharju, Casey Mittlestadt and Jakub Lauko all have one thing in common: they’re motivated.

Maybe none more than Jokiharju.

“A guy who asked to be traded out of Buffalo, who will be an unrestricted free agent at season’s end. Clearly motivated,” Sirott said of Jokiharju. “I think he was excited the fact the Bruins were in the mix. Whether or not he lands with the Bruins beyond this season, I think that’s still to be determined. But obviously, he has something to prove, and he has something to prove in a different situation.”

The Bruins sure hope that group of players can use the motivation they gained at the trade deadline to their advantage. It certainly seems that way for Mittlestadt, who notched his third point — and first goal — in as many games since joining the Bruins on Thursday night against the Ottawa Senators.
