He Did It! Watch Alex Ovechkin Break All-Time NHL Goals Record

The Capitals star passed Wayne Gretzky with his 895th career goal

Alex Ovechkin made hockey history Sunday, scoring his 895th career goal to break Wayne Gretzky’s longstanding all-time NHL record.

The second-period tally was textbook Ovi, as the Washington Capitals superstar unleashed an absolute rocket past New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin.

Ovechkin tied the all-time goals mark Friday night and had one request for the impending record-setter.

“I don’t want an empty net,” Ovechkin said.

Problem solved.

Gretzky, who broke Gordie Howe’s all-time NHL goals record 31 years ago, was in attendance Sunday at UBS Arena. The game was stopped to celebrate Ovechkin’s amazing accomplishment.
