Did Patriots Try To Trade Up In NFL Draft? Eliot Wolf Offers Insight

New England did plenty of trading back but not up on Day 2

The Patriots were very active on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft but weren’t aggressive in their approach.

New England traded back twice Friday night and eventually drafted center Jared Wilson with the 95th overall pick. Executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf admitted the Patriots had more offers than expected during Day 2, which might have influenced some debate in the draft room.

It was a solid day for the Patriots, and it seemed like they got the players they wanted to help Drake Maye. But was there thought to trade up?

“Yeah, we had some of those conversations, and again, they were probably saying the same thing that I just said about us. Like, ‘That’s not enough,’ but it ultimately just didn’t work out in that fashion,” Wolf told reporters, per a team-provided transcript.

New England has five Day 3 picks heading into Saturday. The Patriots certainly could stand pat and continue to fill out the roster or continue to trade back to acquire future assets. But those are enough resources to trade up if there is a prospect Wolf, Mike Vrabel and company are fond of.
