Eliot Wolf Clarifies Funny Blunder By 2025 Patriots Draftee

Todd Downing might need to get a New England shirt if he doesn't have one already

TreVeyon Henderson was surprised the Patriots drafted him in the second round Friday, but the dynamic running back might have forgot a few details about his pre-draft process.

New England selected Henderson with the No. 38 pick on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft. The 22-year-old gives Mike Vrabel’s side an explosive playmaker and more help for Drake Maye.

Henderson was surprised the Patriots drafted him because he claimed he only had one Zoom visit with New England. However, according to executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf, that wasn’t entirely the case.

“Yeah, I feel like TreVeyon maybe forgot one of the meetings because Coach (Todd) Downing met with him at Ohio State, and he didn’t mention that. We’ll have to talk to Todd, maybe he wasn’t wearing his Patriots shirt,” Wolf told reporters, per a team-provided transcript. “But no, we spent time with him, and obviously we have ample connections with Ohio State, not only (Mike) Vrabel, but Stretch (John Streicher), Cam Williams, both those guys are Ohio State alum. We have a really good relationship with those people over there, and obviously, this was a great year to have those connections with them winning the national championship and obviously the number of players that are going to be drafted from there.”

Wolf tends to have a bad habit of contradicting himself and others. However, he could be given a pass Friday night since that was important context to the Henderson pick. It still would have been a great selection even if the Patriots only had a virtual visit with the running back. However, it seemed like there was a lot more research done in person.

If Downing doesn’t have a Patriots shirt, someone should probably fix that so that the wide receivers coach is properly identified during the next pre-draft process.
