Why Bruins Fans Should ‘Love’ David Pastrnak’s Mentality After Milestone

Pastrnak joined an elite and exclusive club Tuesday

David Pastrnak fully understands what his job is for the Boston Bruins.

It’s to put up points and never stop doing so.

Pastrnak certainly did that this season, and reached a milestone in Boston’s 7-2 win over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night when he became just the third player in franchise history to record three consecutive 100-point seasons. Pastrnak joined an elite and exclusive group that only features Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito, who accomplished the feat six and five times, respectively.

NESN’s Andy Brickley on “The Hockey Hub” applauded Pastrnak not just for his accomplishment, but more so for keeping an “even-keeled” attitude about it as well.

“For him to say this is what’s expected. It’s expected by the organization, the fans and myself as a player and it’s my job to be productive, I love that,” Brickley said. “I love that mentality, I love that approach, I love that frame of mind.”

Handling the achievement in that manner shows the leadership from Pastrnak, who is a front-runner to be the captain of the Bruins next season.

“The room is different and they need him. They need his voice. They need is lead by example,” Brickley said. “I think maybe five years ago you wouldn’t have gone down that road with David Pastrnak because he was a fun-loving, goal-scoring, high-entertainment guy that really didn’t give you that impression that he was going to be a future leader of this team when it came to in the locker room. Certainly on the ice and being productive and scoring goals and winning hockey games. But now, there’s more responsibility to what is asked of him and it’s been truly impressive the way he’s responded, despite the fact the Bruins are not going to be a postseason team.”

Pastrnak, who owns 41 goals and 59 assists, can add to his point total over the final three games of the season.
