Celtics Fans Give Luke Kornet Hilarious New Nickname

Kornet hopes to help keep Boston's season alive Friday

Luke Kornet came up huge for the Celtics in Game 5, and Boston fans rewarded the 29-year-old heading into Game 6 on Friday.

Kornet filled in for an ailing Kristaps Porzingis to help the C’s beat the New York Knicks 127-102 at TD Garden to keep his team’s season alive. The eighth-year center blocked a career-high seven shots, nearly recording a triple-double. The performance exemplified the depth of Joe Mazzulla’s side and how much the Celtics were willing to fight, a game after losing Jayson Tatum to an Achilles injury.

Celtics fans decided Kornet’s breakout performance merited a new nickname for the big man: “the block god.” And they made it Wikipedia official.

In case you didn’t know, it’s fairly simple to edit Wikipedia pages. There is a vetting process that might get the edit of Kornet’s name taken down, but it provided a hilarious visual heading into Game 6.

“The Block God” is a much better nickname than “The Green Kornet,” and the former Knicks center will hope to help the Celtics force a Game 7 with a win at Madison Square Garden on Friday.
