Chase Meidroth will want to forget this blooper
The Royals walked off with a win Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium thanks in part to Chase Meidroth.
The White Sox entered the ninth inning of their latest contest in Kansas City with a one-run lead when Cam Booser walked Mark Canha to lead off the frame. Booser appeared on the verge of retiring the next batter when he induced a Drew Waters infield pop-up, but it proved not to be a routine play for Meidroth. Far from it.
Meidroth, whom Chicago acquired from Boston in the offseason Garrett Crochet trade, had the shallow fly bounce off his head and into the outfield. Booser proceeded to allow singles to three of the final four batters he faced, which sealed a 4-3 Royals win and the South Siders’ second straight defeat.
The 23-year-old didn’t try to make any excuses for the costly blunder after the game.
“I just missed it,” Meidroth told reporters, per MLB.com. “It’s a ball that’s got to be caught. It’s a tough (game). It’s one that’s got to be won.”
Fortunately for Meidroth, he’s just 15 games into his big league career. The talented infielder has plenty of time to fill his reel with highlights and make fans forget about the ball off his noggin.
