Will the change elevate Boston to a win?
LOWELL, Mass. — The Minnesota Frost got off to a hot start against the Fleet, chasing Aerin Frankel from Boston’s net at the end of the first period.
With the Fleet’s season on the line, Boston can control its destiny by securing at least one point against Minnesota in the regular season finale.
Unfortunately for Boston, Minnesota scored two goals from Britta Curl-Salemme and Lee Stecklein in the first four minutes of the game to give the Frost an early 2-0 lead.
While it’s uncharacteristic of Frankel to allow two goals on the first six shots she faced, you have to wonder if the Boston goalie still suffers from the upper-body injury she sustained in the World Championship gold medal game between Team USA and Team Canada.
Minnesota captain Kendall Coyne Schofield extended the Frost lead to three when she potted her 12th goal of the season while Fleet defender Megan Keller was in the box for cross-checking.
Fleet head coach Courtney Kessell opted to pull Frankel to begin the second period. Rookie goaltender Klára Peslarová replaced Frankel in net to begin the middle frame.
Peslarovát turned aside all 29 shots in her first career PWHL start on April 26 to backstop Boston to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Toronto Sceptres.
Even though the Fleet are seeking a come-from-behind win, they can still clinch a playoff berth if the Ottawa Charge loses to the Sceptres in their season finale.
If Boston loses in regulation and Ottawa wins, the Fleet would see their season end. In this scenario, Ottawa and Minnesota would both hold a tiebreaker advantage over Boston with more regulation wins.
