Boston's farm system continues to get national attention
The Boston Red Sox farm system continued to get national attention.
Baseball America updated its top 100 prospects list, and the “big three” of Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer remained in the top 10. Shortstop Franklin Arias also remained in the top 100, but Wednesday saw Payton Tolle and Brandon Clarke join the list for the first time.
What’s notable is that Tolle and Clarke are pitchers from the 2024 MLB Draft. That also made them products of chief baseball officer Craig Breslow’s tenure.
The Red Sox drafted Tolle in the second round, and the left-hander commanded a 4.30 ERA in 14 2/3 innings with High-A Greenville this season. Sox Prospects had the 22-year-old as the No. 13 prospect in Boston’s farm system.
Boston drafted Clarke in the fourth round, and the right-hander earned a quick promotion to the Driver after starting the season in Single-A Salem. Clarke recorded a 0.63 ERA in 14 1/3 innings between Single-A and High-A this season. Sox Prospects had the 22-year-old as the No. 19 prospect in the Red Sox’s farm system.
As exciting as Anthony, Campbell and Mayer are, it should be encouraging for the Red Sox and their fans that the pitching prospect line showed solid signs of growth.
