Why Red Sox World Series MVP Believes In Rafael Devers’ Defense

Mike Lowell believes Devers can make the switch

Rafael Devers continues to mash for the Boston Red Sox after a huge week at the plate.

That won’t be the full story after weeks of discussion since Triston Casas’ season-ending injury. Conversations of Devers potentially moving to first base for the Red Sox sparked quite the reaction from the $300 million player, though the tone slightly settled in recent days.

With that said, conversations continue and the door remains open for the switch. There’s belief he can do it, even from 2007 World Series MVP Mike Lowell.

The former Red Sox corner infielder joined Tom Caron and The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier on NESN’s “310 To Left” podcast to discuss a return to the field defensively for Devers.

“I think if Raffy does make that transition, which a lot of people thought he was going to do anyways and end up at first, I actually think he could be a plus defender,” Lowell said.
